Re: Expectation
The expectation would be high this season because of the last, regardless of the stadium. I don't think where we are now playing our home games makes a difference at all to most level headed people's expectations.

Probably only the young or the foolish genuinely think this. I also think it's slightly insulting to make the claim that West Ham fans other than those mentioned above have had their expectations raised by the club because of the move. Give us a bit more credit.

These are the good times lads you need to calm down or at least out your tena pants on.

We are starting the season looking forward to European football rather than over our shoulder at 18th place. Ask a Leeds, Foest, Newcastle, Vila or Sheff wed supporter if they would want to change places with us.

I agree that we are a striker signing light and look a little under cooked as the commentator put it last night but this half glass empty attitude is soul destroying.

Re: Expectation
My expectation is for us to do as well as last season and for Bilic to emulate Koeman by coming in to the PL and managing his club to two consecutive 60 something point seasons with a healthy positive goal difference.

It is far too soon to make judgement and it's best to wait for a few more PL games to have been played.

Re: Expectation
Iron - we are at new stadium. That is very different to being at a new level.
And if there is anything worse than knee-jerking, over-excited fans with unrealistic expectations (and there are a few, granted), it is the Brady-fodder supporters who dismiss any dissent as 'knicker-wetting' which, along with 'iconic' is the most over-used, irritating phrase going. Please stop it.

We played the kids and the likes of Nolan, CFC, Maiga, Jarvis JOB last season. So you cannot compare the two.

Last season we beat Arsenal and lost to the eventual league winners, who we battered in the 2nd half and just couldn't score...like a lot of teams against Leicester and Bournemouth we had a player sent off.

Against Chelsea and Astra we couldn't string more than 4 passes together before giving the ball away.

I'm not saying we'll get relegate as it will improve I am certain of that all I'm saying is that people who are calling us a top 7 side are taking a bit too much for granted

I'm not pissing my knickers. I'm calling it as I see it.

Last 2 games we have been very poor. Chelsea won the league the season before last and came 10th last season, was that because other teams improved or was it because they didn't play as well? it was the latter.

All I'm saying is we don't look like a top 7 side based on our performances to date.

Re: Expectation
"Based on what? based on because we came 7th last season? Last season is gone, it's a new season and the last 2 games have been less than convincing."

What about the start of last season? In out first 7 competitive games we scraped through on penalties after 2 draws against Birkirkara, drew and lost against Astra, lost at home to Leicester and Bournemouth and pulled off an unlikely victory at Arsenal.

We certainly didn't look a top 7 side then did we? And as the season progressed we were unlucky not to finish a few places higher than that.

Another one needing to change piss soaked knickers.

Look at our direct competitors like Southampton and Everton and how they have changed over the summer. Who are these teams that you think have become better than us over night ?

Re: Expectation
The Communist is spot on.

When your chairman makes statements about marquee signings and bids being made in excess of 30 million pounds for strikers, that immediately raises expectations within the fan base.

We've moved into a new stadium and based on what Lady Brady has said, this will take us to a new level so again, this will only raise expectation.

It's the owners raising the expectation leading the fans to raise theirs, however realistic or unrealistic that may be.

Re: Expectation
we have a side capable of challenging for at least 7th

Based on what? based on because we came 7th last season?

Last season is gone, it's a new season and the last 2 games have been less than convincing. Right now, based on our last 2 performances, we don't look like a top 7 side.

Granted we have injuries but if the back up players are not up to the grade then that just shows how thin our squad is which is a concern as we will need to use the whole squad if we qualify for the Europa league...which is by no means a foregone conclusion!

I understand where you are coming from and agree that more investment is needed for the reasons that you have listed. However, we have a side capable of challenging for at least 7th and will likely be in the group stage of the Europa league. The negative mood is ridiculous.

Re: Expectation
A lot of the chaps I go football with are younger than me and it's hilarious hearing them constantly moan about how shit we are.

We all want to win a trophy, but I sometimes feel now that football has become this beast where fans now EXPECT the team to never lose or play badly. I expect a good laugh and effort from the players. Happy then regardless.

Reckon we could win 10 games in a row, yet if we lost the 11th to Manchester United, this site would still go into meltdown with people calling certain players fucking useless cunts and Bilic clueless.

Fo the Communist 12:48 Fri Aug 19
Re: Expectoration
I'd normally agree with the OP but this season is different.
We have been frogmarched to a new stadium with the sweetener that moving from the Boleyn will enable us to push on.
After the final Man U game last season - a fucking fantastic experience - I had kind of reconciled myself to the move in the name of progress.
I hadn't brought into the myth that the move would mean cheaper tickets for me (it hasn't) and I have no doubt my 'equivalent' view will be nothing of the sort. But, we were told we had to move out of the ground to push on and because we had outgrown the Boleyn so off we all trudged to Camelot and a bright shining future as sold by Lady Brady and co.
So it was the club that raised expectation with all its talk of marquee signings to match 'stunning' 'world class' surroundings.
Having done so they have singularly failed to match their rhetoric. It is that failure rather than unrealistic demands of fans that has caused the current unrest.
There is still time to put it right of course and a win on Sunday will douse the flames. But even a win should not hide the fact the board has, so far this season, sold the fans a Uefa Category Four pup.
